Whitley Bay Islamic Centre had a great opportunity to visit our friends at Support and Grow North East during their Cuppa Clubs hosted at the North East Homeless Fish Quay Hub.
Support and Grow North East are a volunteer based charity with the aims of helping individuals who have been affected by the poverty crisis here in the North East. They help provide food, toiletries, sanitary products and much more for those in need through donations from the general public and other organisations.
We spoke with Janine and Claire, who lead and support the charity on a day-to-day basis. We invited them both to our centre earlier this year for introductions to each other and a short discussion on how we can support each other to bring benefits to our community here in North Tyneside. Our meeting with Janine and Claire left us feeling greatly inspired for what they have achieved together in helping those in need, and we welcomed them to use the facilities in our centre if ever they were in need.
Towards the end of our initial meeting Janine and Claire invited us to come along to their Cuppa Clubs, a friendly catch up that is open to all in support of mental health and well-being hosted across multiple locations, to see at first hand what it is they were getting up to. Two of our volunteers Mahfuz and Maisha decided to pay a visit at the North East Homeless Fish Quay Hub to show our support for the community, and introduce the Whitley Bay Islamic Centre as a friendly neighbour ready to help all those in need within our community.
The North East Homeless Fish Quay Hub provides support to those who are vulnerable and/or homeless in the North East of England. They also provide food and emergency equipment at street outreach sessions that we hold 3 times per week.
